5 Lessons Learned from Kamala Harris’ 60 Minutes Interview

Vice President Kamala Harris sat down for a wide-ranging interview on “60 Minutes” where she fielded tough questions about her economic plans, border security, and confronting Russia over its war in Ukraine. This interview is part of a media blitz that includes appearances on various shows such as “Call Her Daddy,” “The View,” and “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert. With no more debates scheduled between Harris and former President Donald Trump, these interviews could be crucial in the final weeks leading up to Election Day.

Harris addressed the issue of migration at the southern border, calling it a “longstanding problem” and emphasizing the need for Congress to act to fix the issue. When pressed on the record number of crossings and whether more should have been done sooner, Harris refused to directly answer, focusing on recent actions that have led to a decrease in crossings. She also criticized Republicans for their role in hindering bipartisan border bills proposed by the administration.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Harris stated that she would not meet bilaterally with Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate a solution, emphasizing the importance of Ukraine having a say in its future. She expressed strong support for Ukraine in its defense against Russia’s aggression and suggested that if Trump were president, Putin would have already taken over Kyiv. Harris has met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and reiterated unwavering support for the country in its conflict with Russia.

The interview featured an alliance between Harris and former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, who endorsed Harris and spoke at a rally in Wisconsin. Harris and Cheney shared a warm exchange about their collaboration in defending the rule of law and coming together across party lines. The interview also included Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who faced questions about past statements but emphasized the importance of accuracy in communication at the urging of Harris.

Former President Donald Trump backed out of his scheduled “60 Minutes” interview after having agreed to it, citing objections to the previous interview he had with the program’s correspondent Lesley Stahl. Trump has largely avoided non-friendly interviews in recent weeks, opting for more favorable outlets like Fox News. Harris criticized Trump’s lack of meaningful conversations with the American people and emphasized the need for unity and finding common ground to move the country forward. The upcoming interviews and appearances will be crucial for Harris in the lead-up to the election.
