Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian humanitarian aid organization, has extended its relief efforts to western North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene. The organization has deployed three water filtration systems that can provide clean water for up to 10,000 people daily, or 50,000 liters. These systems were designed by an in-house team of engineers with the goal of providing clean water to those in need. One of the areas receiving aid is Swannanoa, which had its water pipeline network destroyed during the hurricane.
Rev. Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse, expressed gratitude for the support in a statement, highlighting the organization’s efforts to help those affected by Hurricane Helene. In addition to distributing water filters and emergency relief supplies, Samaritan’s Purse has conducted 19 helicopter operations to deliver food, water, infant hygiene kits, and medical supplies to isolated communities in North Carolina. The organization has also set up a 20-bed emergency field hospital in Avery County to assist those most heavily impacted by the hurricane.
A Georgia resident shared his story of survival in North Carolina following Hurricane Helene, crediting his faith in God for helping him endure the challenges. Samaritan’s Purse, headquartered in Boone, North Carolina, has mobilized nearly 3,000 volunteers to assist over 140 families affected by the hurricane. Volunteers have been involved in tasks such as clearing downed trees, removing storm debris, and mudding out flooded homes. Additionally, Samaritan’s Purse has deployed Disaster Relief Units to communities in Georgia and Florida that have also been impacted by the hurricane.
The death toll from Hurricane Helene stands at 232 as of the time of publishing of the article. Despite the devastation caused by the hurricane, organizations like Samaritan’s Purse are working tirelessly to provide aid and support to those affected.
