In the early hours of Wednesday, over a dozen cars were broken into in Greenbelt, Maryland, leaving residents with smashed windows and stolen airbags. The Greenbelt Police Department (GPD) reported five incidents in Greenbelt West, eight in Greenbelt East, and three in Central Greenbelt. While some victims have been contacted, GPD is still waiting to hear from others to determine what was stolen.

Specific incidents reported in Greenbelt West included wheels stolen from a Honda on Greenbelt Station Parkway, tires stolen from a Honda on Miner St., and a vehicle broken into on Springhill Lane with unknown items taken. Additionally, two vehicles on Breezewood Ct. were targeted, with one having its airbags stolen and the other missing its hood, headlight bumper, trunk, taillight, and airbags. In Central Greenbelt, further incidents were reported, while similar incidents occurred in Greenbelt East.

Residents are urged to report any information they may have about these incidents to GPD at 301-474-7200. The police department is working to investigate these crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and take precautions to protect their vehicles from theft and vandalism. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of neighborhood watch programs and communication between residents and law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of the community.

The incident highlights the need for increased security measures in the area to prevent further thefts and damage to property. Police presence and patrols may be increased in response to these incidents, and residents are advised to secure their vehicles and report any suspicious activity. It is essential for the community to come together and support each other in times of need, working together with law enforcement to address issues of crime and safety.

As the investigation continues, GPD is committed to keeping the community informed and ensuring that appropriate action is taken to address the recent spate of car break-ins. Residents should remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities. By working together, the community can help prevent future incidents and ensure that Greenbelt remains a safe and secure place for all residents.
