President Biden recently hosted the final Quad summit of his presidency in Wilmington, Delaware. The meeting brought together the leaders of Australia, Japan, and India in an effort to strengthen their Indo-Pacific partnership. This marked the fourth time the Quad leaders have met during Biden’s presidency. The focus of the summit was on coordinating responses to a range of global challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and climate change.

During the summit, the leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including regional security, economic cooperation, and democratic values. The Quad partnership is seen as a key strategic alliance in the Indo-Pacific region, aiming to counter the influence of China. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region, while also emphasizing the importance of upholding international rules and norms.

One of the key outcomes of the summit was the announcement of a new working group dedicated to coordinating efforts on critical and emerging technology. This group will focus on areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and cybersecurity. The leaders also discussed the need to address supply chain vulnerabilities and ensure resilient and diverse supply chains in key sectors.

The Quad leaders also discussed the need to address the climate crisis and committed to working together to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. This includes efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to clean energy sources, and promote sustainable development. The leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration and cooperation in addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change.

The summit also provided an opportunity for the leaders to deepen their personal relationships and strengthen the bonds of friendship between their countries. President Biden expressed his gratitude for the partnership and cooperation of Australia, Japan, and India in addressing global challenges. The leaders discussed the values and principles that unite them, including a commitment to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

Overall, the final Quad summit of President Biden’s presidency was seen as a productive and successful gathering. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the Quad partnership and expressed optimism about the future of their cooperation. As they continue to work together on shared goals and objectives, the Quad countries are poised to play a key role in shaping the future of the Indo-Pacific region and addressing the pressing challenges of the 21st century.
