At least 15 injured in Kharkiv as Russia uses guided bombs

On the evening of September 20, Russia launched a series of guided bomb attacks on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city. At least 15 people were wounded in the attack, which is part of a pattern of ongoing aggression by Russia towards Kharkiv. The bombs were launched from Russian Su-34 jets located in Belgorod Oblast, across the border from Ukraine. The targets of the bombs included homes, a highway near a hospital, and businesses in the city. A video released by the Kharkiv Oblast Prosecutor’s Office captured the moment the bombs struck, highlighting the devastating impact on civilian infrastructure and lives.

As a result of the attack, eight people were hospitalized, including two children aged 10 and 12, as well as a 17-year-old teenager. The Kharkiv Oblast Prosecutor’s Office noted that two of the children were being treated for stress-related injuries, underscoring the traumatic effects of the bombing on residents of the city. This recent attack follows a previous incident on September 15, where a Russian strike on Kharkiv resulted in the death of a 94-year-old woman and injuries to 42 others. The ongoing attacks on Kharkiv by Russia have led to a significant toll on the city’s population and infrastructure, creating a sense of fear and insecurity among residents.

In addition to the attack on Kharkiv, Russia also launched a missile strike on Odesa, another Ukrainian city, injuring four people and damaging civilian infrastructure. The attack included the use of Iskander-M ballistic missiles, causing harm to the port area and a civilian ship under the Antiguan flag. The escalation of violence in multiple Ukrainian cities demonstrates Russia’s aggressive tactics and disregard for civilian lives and international norms. The targeting of civilian areas and infrastructure highlights the brutality of the conflict and the impact it is having on innocent people caught in the crossfire.

The attacks on Kharkiv and Odesa are part of Russia’s broader military campaign in Ukraine, which began in 2014 with the annexation of Crimea. Since then, Russia has supported separatist movements in eastern Ukraine, leading to ongoing conflict and instability in the region. The recent escalation of violence, including the use of guided bombs and ballistic missiles, signals a dangerous escalation in the conflict and raises concerns about the humanitarian impact on civilians. The international community has condemned Russia’s actions and called for an end to the violence, but the situation remains volatile and unpredictable, with the potential for further escalation and harm to innocent civilians.

As the conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, the need for international intervention and support for the Ukrainian government and people becomes increasingly urgent. The attacks on Kharkiv and Odesa, as well as other cities in Ukraine, highlight the devastating impact of Russia’s aggression and the importance of finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. The targeting of civilian areas and infrastructure by Russia not only violates international law but also undermines the prospects for peace and stability in the region. The world must stand in solidarity with Ukraine and work towards a resolution that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country while ensuring the protection of all its citizens.止The attacks on Kharkiv and Odesa serve as a stark reminder of the human cost of conflict and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Ukraine. The international community must continue to hold Russia accountable for its actions and support efforts to end the violence and restore stability to the region. Only through diplomatic dialogue and a commitment to upholding international law can a lasting peace be achieved in Ukraine and prevent further suffering and loss of life among its civilian population.
