Prince William and Kate Middleton have shown support to Lindsey Burrow, widow of late British rugby star Rob Burrow, who passed away from ALS. Rob was diagnosed with the disease in 2019, two years after retiring from professional rugby, and worked diligently to raise awareness about the condition. Lindsey is set to release a memoir, Take Care: A Memoir of Love, Family and Never Giving Up, with a foreword written by the Prince of Wales. The royal couple posted a blue heart emoji in response to the announcement of Lindsey’s book, showing their support for her and her family.

Rob Burrow passed away at the age of 41 on June 2, leaving behind a legacy in the world of rugby, having won numerous titles throughout his 17-year career. Prince William had developed a friendship with Rob prior to his passing, and shared a heartfelt message on social media following the news of his death, expressing his admiration for the former rugby player. The royal couple also sent their love to Lindsey and the couple’s children, Jackson, Maya, and Macy.

Rob was recognized for his contributions to rugby and his work in raising awareness for ALS with an MBE in 2021, which was later upgraded to a CBE in 2024. Prince William personally presented the award to Rob during a visit to Headingley Stadium in Leeds. The Prince praised Rob and fellow rugby player Kevin Sinfield for their efforts in supporting the MND community and raising funds for the cause. The recognition highlighted the important work that Rob had done during his life to help those affected by ALS.

Lindsey’s memoir aims to not only tell the story of her family but also shed light on the challenges that carers face in the U.K. The hope is that the book will inspire readers and families to overcome their own difficulties. With the support of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Lindsey’s book is expected to draw attention to the tireless work of carers and bring hope to those facing similar challenges. The royal couple’s gesture of posting a heartfelt response to the book announcement shows their solidarity with Lindsey and her mission to raise awareness about ALS.

Rob’s impact on the rugby community and the world of ALS advocacy is evident through the outpouring of support and recognition he received during his life and after his passing. His legacy lives on through the work that his widow Lindsey continues to do in his memory, with the support of Prince William, Kate Middleton, and others who were touched by Rob’s story. The release of Lindsey’s memoir will further cement Rob’s place in history as a hero of the MND community and a beloved figure in the world of rugby.
