Despite having met her previously, James found himself flustered and breathless when he almost ran into the Queen upon arrival. He had been rehearsing the correct way to address the monarch on the way to Norfolk, but in his panic, he mistakenly greeted her as “Your Royal Majesty.”
However, rather than causing offense, James’ incorrect greeting was found humorous by those in attendance, including the Queen. She was warm and inviting towards James, making him feel at ease in her presence. Queen Elizabeth even offered him something to eat, showing the welcoming nature of the royal family towards Princess Kate’s family.
