Thailand has been experiencing severe flooding in the northern province of Chiang Rai, leading to the deployment of military special forces to aid in rescue efforts. At least 33 people have died in Thailand due to rain-related incidents since mid-August, with nine fatalities occurring this week. The adverse weather is a result of Typhoon Yagi, which has caused devastation across Asia, with significant impact felt in Vietnam as well.

Typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm to hit Asia this year, has caused widespread destruction in Vietnam, where it made landfall and flooded parts of the capital city of Hanoi. In Thailand’s Chiang Rai province, floodwaters have begun to recede in some areas, but many riverside settlements are still submerged. The head of the Mai Sai district in Chiang Rai has reported that hundreds of people are still trapped in their homes, requiring urgent rescue efforts to be undertaken.

Local authorities in Chiang Rai are utilizing boats and helicopters, with assistance from Thai Navy SEAL special forces, to reach those in need of rescue. The situation is described as delicate, with water levels rising rapidly during periods of rain, posing challenges for the rescue operations. The focus is on bringing out those individuals who are stranded in their flooded homes and ensuring their safety amid the ongoing floods.

The deployment of military special forces reflects the seriousness of the situation in Chiang Rai and the need for coordinated efforts to reach those affected by the flooding. The government in Thailand has been responding to the crisis, with a focus on rescuing individuals who are trapped and providing support to those affected by the adverse weather conditions. The death toll from the flooding and landslides underscores the impact of the ongoing weather-related incidents in the region, highlighting the urgent need for assistance.

With the support of the Thai Navy SEAL special forces, local authorities are working tirelessly to conduct rescue operations and bring relief to those affected by the flooding in Chiang Rai. Communities along riverside settlements remain at risk of further inundation, necessitating swift action to reach individuals who are in need of assistance. The collaborative efforts between military special forces and local authorities demonstrate a commitment to addressing the crisis and ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected by the floods.
