Malatya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Sami Er, along with the mayors of Yeşilyurt and Battalgazi districts, stated in a press conference that they are focused on lifting Malatya up and solving its problems, working for the benefit of Malatya while staying away from political polemics.
Recently, at a meeting with mayors from earthquake-hit cities in Gaziantep, Er announced that Malatya would receive 155 million euros from a credit obtained from the World Bank, to be distributed to municipalities as a grant through water and sanitation administrations, which would help address the city’s infrastructure deficiencies.
Er emphasized that their main priority is to provide people with permanent housing and workplaces, stating that with the help of the public, he could uplift Malatya in two years, with 3,000 homes ready and a total of 8,000 homes to be delivered by October. He also mentioned the increase in reserved areas from 15 to 49, with weekly TOKI tenders taking place as a result of their negotiations with TOKI, as well as an additional grant of about 4-4.5 billion lira received through AFAD.
Er also mentioned that the construction of the northern ring road will be completed by 2025, with plans to build a new bus station, and that the İkizce area, where earthquake houses are being built, will be like a district with a population of 100,000, with ongoing infrastructure work in the area.
He added that construction of 9,800 homes and 6,400 businesses continues in reserved areas, with 23,163 homes auctioned off at the city’s periphery, some of which are under construction, and 12,675 village houses auctioned off and construction ongoing for some of them.
