Lumen Field in Seattle, home of the Seattle Seahawks, will now have a total of five new Fly Thru Market locations that will offer Amazon’s Just Walk Out Technology. This technology allows customers to shop and leave the store without having to wait in line for a cashier.
With six new stores at Lumen Field, including 13 concession stands and two retail shops, the venue now has more of Amazon’s cashierless technology than any other sports venue in the world. The concession stands use overhead cameras to track customers and items they pick up, automatically charging them as they exit the store. The retail locations feature Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tags, offering a seamless shopping experience for customers.
The first Just Walk Out store at Lumen Field opened in 2022 and was met with great success. Amazon reported a 60% increase in customer throughput and a doubling of total transactions per game compared to traditional concession stands. The Seahawks also saw a 32% increase in concession transactions per game since implementing the Just Walk Out technology.
Just Walk Out technology is becoming more widespread in sports stadiums and arenas across the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada. At Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md., Washington Commanders fans will see seven new Just Walk Out locations, the most launched at once for a sports stadium. The technology will also debut at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. Additionally, other stadiums such as Bank of America Stadium, EverBank Stadium, and Hard Rock Stadium are also using Just Walk Out technology.
Amazon opened its first Go convenience store with Just Walk Out technology in Seattle in 2018 and has since sold the technology to third-party retailers for use in their own stores. More than 180 third-party locations in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia now offer Just Walk Out technology, including grocery stores, airport retailers, music and sports venues, theme parks, and college campus shops and cafes.
In a recent announcement, Amazon revealed that Just Walk Out technology will be expanding to more university campuses in the U.S. and internationally. There are currently more than 30 stores on college campuses worldwide that feature the cashierless shopping experience. Additionally, Amazon is removing Just Walk Out from most of its large-format Amazon Fresh grocery stores and will instead focus on the company’s Dash Carts, which offer a different shopping experience.
