Princess Leonor makes debut as midshipman

Princess Leonor arrived in Marín this afternoon to continue her military training, now in the Navy. Wearing a white uniform with a buttoned jacket of special significance, she stepped out of the official car and entered the Naval Military School where she was greeted by the director, Captain Pedro Cardona Suanzes. After completing her training at this school in Pontevedra, where she will learn to navigate using virtual reality glasses and practice rowing, among other subjects, Leonor will embark on the training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano in January for four months to master traditional navigation.

This is her first day with the Navy, and the princess joins the third-year students as part of a study plan that was created last year through a royal decree to provide her with knowledge in land, sea, and air. After her time with the Navy, Leonor will only need to train with the Air and Space Force, for which she will move to San Javier (Murcia) in the 2025-2026 academic year. Unlike when she enrolled in the General Military Academy of Zaragoza last October to train with the Army, where she is already a lieutenant, Leonor arrived alone on Thursday, without her parents Felipe VI and Letizia Ortiz.

The King is in Barcelona to visit the Nou Port Olímpic, and will later attend an event for the America’s Cup, while Queen Letizia is traveling to Paris to attend the Paralympic Games until Monday. Princess Leonor’s military training is part of her preparation for her future role as queen of Spain, and it also reflects the importance of the military in the country. This latest step in her training will provide her with a well-rounded education in various branches of the armed forces.

While Leonor’s parents may not have been present for her arrival in Marín today, their support for her educational and professional development is evident. The princess continues to take on new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow, demonstrating her commitment to fulfilling her future responsibilities. Her training with the Navy will not only equip her with practical skills but also instill in her the values of discipline, leadership, and service, which are essential for any military officer.

Princess Leonor’s journey through the different branches of the Spanish Armed Forces highlights the comprehensive nature of her education and the importance of preparing her for her future role. As she embarks on this new phase of training with the Navy, she will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience and knowledge that will shape her as a leader and future monarch. With each new challenge she undertakes, she continues to demonstrate her dedication and determination to excel in her duties and serve her country with honor and distinction.
