Gesteelde-Diamant’s lawyers are seeking the dismissal of a lawsuit filed by singer Chanaaz Mangroe, accusing him of sexual assault and abuse. The producer, known as The-Dream, has worked on hit songs for artists like Beyoncé and Rihanna. His lawyers argue that Mangroe’s lawsuit is defamatory and being used for financial gain, requesting the case be thrown out entirely.
Mangroe, performing as Channii Monroe, claimed in her lawsuit that Gesteelde-Diamant engaged in an abusive, violent, and manipulative relationship with her after she moved to the U.S. from the Netherlands to pursue a music career. The motion filed by Gesteelde-Diamant’s lawyers aims to dismiss or strike the lawsuit’s rape claim, citing technical grounds for its invalidity.
Desirée F. Moore, representing Gesteelde-Diamant, argues that the lawsuit is a “shotgun pleading” lacking specific factual allegations against each defendant, which she believes warrants dismissal. On the other hand, Meredith Firetog, representing Mangroe, finds the arguments in the motion to dismiss unpersuasive and intends to oppose them, expressing readiness to proceed with the case.
If the case is not dismissed, Gesteelde-Diamant’s lawyers are requesting a judge to strike certain portions of the complaint they view as irrelevant and scandalous. They also seek the dismissal of Gesteelde-Diamant’s co-owned company, Contra Paris, LLC, citing jurisdictional reasons related to its business operations in Atlanta and registration in Delaware. The Associated Press has not typically named individuals claiming sexual abuse unless they have come forward publicly, as Mangroe has done in this instance.
