Local authorities in Russia confirmed that the number of citizens fleeing from the Kursk region has risen to 122,000, with evacuations ongoing from nine border regions since the incursion began. Ukrainian forces made a rapid push into the area on 6 August, leading to the seizure of villages and the taking of prisoners. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia has been providing humanitarian aid to residents in affected areas, with 179 temporary accommodation centers established across 27 regions of the country. Approximately 2,500 tonnes of humanitarian aid has been delivered to the Kursk region to assist those impacted by the conflict.
In Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, Russian soldiers continue to advance towards the strategic node of Pokrovsk. The Ukrainian army has given residents of Pokrovsk two weeks to evacuate the town, with around 500 to 600 people leaving daily out of the 50,000 still remaining. Forced evacuation of families with children is set to begin on 20 August, prompting additional evacuation trains to run from Pokrovsk to ensure the safety of those affected. The head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Vadim Filashkin, announced these measures as part of efforts to protect the population and resist further Russian aggression in the region.
