Celebrating Robert Lewandowski’s Best Moments as the Proficient Goalscorer Turns 36

The La Liga season opens as Robert Lewandowski celebrates his 36th birthday. Currently in his third season with Barcelona, the star striker scored two goals in the club’s opening match against Valencia. Lewandowski’s reputation as a prolific goalscorer has over a decade’s worth of evidence, particularly during his tenure with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. FOX Sports Research took the opportunity to review the top moments of his impressive career.

A defining season for Lewandowski was his 2020-21 run with Bayern Munich, solidifying his renown as one of the best players of his generation. He broke the Bundesliga record by scoring 41 goals in a season, surpassing a record held for nearly half a century by Gerd Müller. Lewandowski scored in 25 out of 29 league matches, culminating in him being awarded the Ballon d’Or Striker of the Year and the European Golden Shoe.

In terms of achievements, Lewandowski is a proven champion. He won eight Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich, alongside three German Cups and five German Super Cups. The crowning glory was his 2019-20 season where he led a Bayern Munich team to secure the much-coveted European treble, encompassing the Bundesliga title, the German Cup, and the UEFA Champions League. His scoring record for those competitions (55 goals in 47 matches) makes him the only player in German history to achieve this.

One of Lewandowski’s most memorable moments was his ‘super-sub’ performance in a match against Wolfsburg in 2015. Subbed in while Bayern Munich were 1-0 down at halftime, he scored five goals in nine minutes, turning the match around. This feat set three records; most goals scored by a substitute in the Bundesliga, fastest Bundesliga hat-trick and quickest to score five goals in a Bundesliga match.

When Lewandowski moved to Barcelona, it put his skills to a new test. His debut season in 2022-23 saw him excel, leading the league in scoring with 23 goals in 34 matches. Over his first two seasons with the club, he scored 59 goals in 95 matches, proving his ability to deliver stellar performances across different leagues.

Another feather in Lewandowski’s cap is his record for Poland’s national team. Named captain in 2013, he became the country’s all-time top scorer in October 2017, after scoring a hat-trick against Armenia, taking his total to 50 goals and surpassing Włodek Lubański’s record of 48. Lewandowski’s current goal tally stands at 83, substantiating his ability to replicate his club success at international level.
