In recent developments in Ukraine on August 20, a pontoon crossing built by Russian forces in Kursk Oblast has disappeared, possibly due to an explosion, according to reports. This occurred after Ukraine allegedly struck the third and final stationary bridge over the Seim River, threatening Russian supply lines in the area. Ukrainian forces have also advanced 28-35 kilometers into Kursk Oblast, capturing 93 settlements and 1,263 square kilometers of Russian territory. The situation remains challenging, with battles ongoing in various directions across the front line.

Additionally, the Ukrainian parliament passed a bill potentially banning religious organizations connected to Russia. In Donetsk Oblast, clashes are ongoing at the village of Niu-York as Russian forces reportedly advance into the settlement. A defected Russian soldier, codenamed “Silver,” revealed that he spied for Ukraine and injured his commander in a grenade attack. He provided military intelligence to Ukraine before carrying out the attack, escaping, and joining the fight against Russia.

Amidst Russian preparations for new attacks in Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, the military reported increased aerial reconnaissance and assault operations in the area. The intensity of fighting has resulted in significant losses for Russian troops, with clashes and casualties reported in recent engagements. Ukraine aims to establish a buffer zone in Kursk Oblast as part of its defensive operations against Russian forces. The Russian Interior Ministry issued an information security alert for residents and law enforcement in regions bordering Ukraine, advising caution with online activities and communication.

In a notable development, Ukraine approved Sweden’s Pansarbandvagn 302 for delivery to its armed forces as part of a significant military aid package. The infantry fighting vehicles are intended to enhance Ukraine’s defensive capabilities amid the ongoing conflict. The Counteroffensive newsletter highlighted Ukraine’s digital innovations, including online weddings and missile tracking, showcasing the country’s resilience and adaptability amidst war. The Democratic National Convention in Chicago featured celebrations, with President Joe Biden delivering a keynote address, though details on Ukraine were scarce during the event.
