Ken Tanigawa won the 2024 Rogers Charity Classic on the PGA Tour Champions circuit, his first victory since the 2019 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. At 56 years old, Tanigawa expressed his amazement at the win, acknowledging that as time goes by, the chances of winning become slimmer. He had a strong round, finishing at 17 under with eight birdies to secure the win and take home $360,000. Tanigawa attributed his success to staying focused and not getting caught up in the pressure of expectations, simply focusing on playing his best from the first shot.

After finishing his round, Tanigawa discovered that his final score of 193 was enough to beat second-place finisher Richard Green by two strokes. Green had been tied with Tanigawa at 16 under through 16 holes but faltered in the final holes, allowing Tanigawa to pull ahead. Green expressed disappointment at the missed opportunity but remained positive about contending for future tournaments. Darren Clarke and Jason Caron tied for third place at 14 under, with Mario Tiziani finishing in fifth place at 13 under. Canadian golfers Stephen Ames and Mike Weir also had solid rounds, with Ames finishing as the top Canadian at 10 under.

Ames, who now resides in Vancouver, had a mixed round but managed to capitalize on good shots to make birdies. Currently second in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup money, Ames received a warm reception from the crowd at the 18th green. Weir, who finished in a tie for 20th, expressed satisfaction with his performance and hoped to carry the momentum into the next tournament. The event received strong fan support, especially for Canadian players like Weir and Ames, creating a great atmosphere for the players to compete.

Overall, the Canadian contingent had a solid showing at the tournament, with Alan McLean finishing one shot behind Weir in a tie for 28th place. Gordon Burns and Steve Blake also competed in the event, with Burns finishing in a tie for 73rd and Blake finishing well back of the leaders. Despite the varying performances, the Canadian players all appreciated the support from the fans and looked forward to continuing their success in future tournaments. The event was deemed a success, with Tanigawa’s victory marking a memorable highlight for the 2024 Rogers Charity Classic.
