Legendary Louisiana State University women’s basketball coach, Kim Mulkey, responded to a recent article published by The Washington Post, claiming she had not yet read it and was unsure if she would. The article, written by Kent Babb, was released just before the Tigers’ Sweet 16 game against UCLA, which LSU won 78-69. Mulkey accused the reporter of attempting to prevent her from commenting on the article and distract her team during the tournament. She threatened legal action against the Post if they published a false story about her.

The Washington Post article delved into Mulkey’s background as a basketball player and coach, highlighting personal stories about her family and upbringing, as well as her successful career as a player at Louisiana Tech. It also discussed her history with former players who have questioned her support for their sexuality, as well as controversies she has been involved in throughout her career. Despite her success, including four national titles as a coach, Mulkey has faced criticism for not making strong statements in support of players in difficult situations.

Following LSU’s win against UCLA, Mulkey reiterated that she had not read The Washington Post article and expressed surprise that it was published just before her team’s game. She suggested that the timing of the article was meant to distract her team or generate clicks for the publication. Despite her reluctance to read the article, Mulkey hinted that her attorneys would review it to address any concerns that may arise. LSU’s representative directed inquiries about the article to Mulkey’s postgame conference.

Looking ahead to LSU’s game against the Iowa Hawkeyes for a spot in the Final Four, Mulkey remains focused on her team’s success in the tournament. She continues to lead the Tigers with determination and drive, aiming for another national title and further solidifying her legacy as one of the most successful coaches in women’s college basketball. Despite the distractions and controversies surrounding the recent article, Mulkey remains committed to her team and their pursuit of excellence on the court. LSU fans and supporters eagerly await the outcome of Monday’s game, rooting for Mulkey and the Tigers as they continue their journey through the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
