A heavy rainfall in the Altınordu district of Ordu yesterday morning and intensified in the afternoon affected daily life in the district. The rainfall flooded some streets quickly, causing difficulty for drivers and residents to move around in the water-filled streets.
The retaining wall of two buildings collapsed in the Şahincili neighborhood of Altınordu District on 623 Street due to the flooding. Residents living in one of the two buildings whose retaining wall collapsed were evacuated by AFAD for safety reasons. Entry and exit to the 10-apartment building were prohibited with barriers and the residents were not allowed to enter until a new retaining wall was built.
Following the incident, work commenced in the region to assess the damage and increase security measures. The neighborhood headman Sezgin Güzelordu stated that several buildings were temporarily closed off by AFAD as a precautionary measure, ensuring that there were no issues with the buildings but the measures were taken for safety purposes.
One of the evacuated residents, Yılmaz Öğretmen, expressed his grievances regarding the lack of infrastructure in the area and emphasized the need for the contractor and municipality to build the retaining wall. He recounted his distress upon arriving at the sealed-off building after the collapse and being unable to retrieve his belongings, calling for action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
