Americans Achieve Historic Performances on the Track at the 2024 Paris Olympics as Léon Marchand Emerges Victorious Again Despite Caeleb Dressel’s Struggles

Day 7 of the 2024 Paris Olympics was filled with exciting moments, including Léon Marchand’s dominance in the 200-meter individual medley, winning his fourth individual gold medal of the Games. However, American swimmer Caeleb Dressel struggled, failing to win any individual medals despite winning gold in the men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay. Dressel expressed disappointment in his performances, acknowledging that it was not his best week at the Olympics.

In tennis, fans are eagerly anticipating the men’s singles gold medal match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz, who has yet to drop a set in the tournament, will face Djokovic, who reached his first-ever Olympic final by defeating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. The match will mark the seventh meeting between the two players, with Alcaraz holding a recent victory over Djokovic at Wimbledon earlier this year.

The U.S. mixed 4×400-meter relay team set a new world record in their preliminary heat, clocking a time of 3:07.41. The team, comprising Vernon Norwood, Shamier Little, Bryce Deadmon, and Kaylyn Brown, is favored to win the gold medal in the final. However, the U.S. men’s national soccer team was eliminated from the Olympics after a 4-0 loss to Morocco, who advanced to the semifinals alongside Spain, France, and Egypt.

In the men’s 10,000-meter race, Grant Fisher secured a bronze medal for the United States, becoming only the fourth American man to medal in the event. Despite stumbling during the race, Fisher rallied in the final lap to claim a podium finish. Chinese badminton player Huang Ya Qiong had a memorable day, winning gold in mixed doubles and getting engaged to her silver medalist boyfriend Liu Yuchen after the match.

After a string of losses, the U.S. men’s 3×3 basketball team secured two wins on Day 7, defeating France and China in pool play. Canyon Berry led the team to victory with 15 points and a game-winning layup against France. The team’s success was a welcome relief after facing adversity throughout the Games, including injuries to key players. The men’s 3×3 team will look to continue their winning streak in their final game against the Netherlands.
