5 new features in iOS 18 that Apple didn’t announce

iOS 18 will not be available to the general public until the fall, but the public beta has been released for a few weeks. This beta version allows users to explore the new features and settings for the iPhone that Apple showcased at WWDC in June. In addition to the showcased features, iOS 18 offers a variety of hidden features that can impact daily iPhone usage. These hidden features may not have been highlighted by Apple, but they are important for users to know about when using iOS 18.

One hidden feature in iOS 18 allows users to restart their iPhone from the redesigned control center without having to press any physical buttons. By swiping down from the top-right of the iPhone and holding down on the power button in the control center, users can access the option to restart their device. This feature simplifies the process of restarting the iPhone compared to previous iOS versions, where users had to press a combination of buttons to trigger a restart. Another hidden feature involves using a QR code to share Wi-Fi passwords, making it easier to share network information with multiple people at once or individuals not saved as contacts, including those with Android devices.

Users running iOS 18 also have the ability to adjust the beam width of their flashlight on compatible iPhone models. This feature allows users to customize the intensity and coverage of the flashlight beam, providing additional versatility for tasks such as photography. Another hidden feature in iOS 18 allows users to hide app labels on the home screen, reducing clutter and creating a cleaner look. By removing app labels underneath the icons, users can streamline their home screen and make it more visually appealing.

Additionally, iOS 18 enables users to change an app to a widget directly from the home screen, without needing to navigate to a separate widget edit page. By pressing and holding down on an app icon on the home screen, users can access quick actions that allow them to convert the app into a widget with just a tap. This convenience saves time and simplifies the process of customizing the home screen with widgets. Overall, iOS 18 offers a range of hidden features and settings that enhance the user experience and provide additional functionality beyond the features that Apple highlighted during the WWDC event.
