Will von der Leyen stay committed to the Green Deal?

The Green Deal, a flagship program of Ursula von der Leyen’s previous mandate as European Commission president, has faced criticism from far-right forces in the European Parliament. Despite this, von der Leyen was re-elected in part by pledging to stand by the Green Deal. However, with a Parliament that has shifted to the right and increasing resistance from parts of her own European People’s Party over green policies, there are concerns about whether von der Leyen’s promises regarding the Green Deal can survive the upcoming legislature. Geneviève Pons, director general of the Jacques Delors Institute in Brussels and veteran cabinet lead for environmental and climate matters during Delors’ last European Commission mandate, provided insights on this issue during an interview with Radio Schuman.

In addition to discussing the future of the Green Deal, Radio Schuman also examined the current status of French influence in the EU following a month of political crisis in the country. This political turmoil may have implications for France’s role within the European Union and its ability to shape EU policy and decision-making processes. With changes happening both internally within the EU and in individual member states, it is important to consider how these developments may impact the overall functioning and effectiveness of the EU as a whole.

Furthermore, Radio Schuman delved into the topic of economic house-hunting options in Europe. As individuals and businesses look to relocate or expand within the EU, it is essential to consider the various economic factors at play in different regions and countries. By exploring the opportunities and challenges of house-hunting in Europe, Radio Schuman provided valuable insights for those seeking to navigate the complex economic landscape of the EU and make informed decisions about their future investments and operations.

Hosted and produced by Maïa de la Baume, Radio Schuman also featured journalist and production assistant Eleonora Vasques, who contributed to the insightful discussions and analyses presented in the program. With audio editing by Zacharia Vigneron and music by Alexandre Jas, Radio Schuman offered a well-rounded and engaging platform for exploring important issues and developments within the European Union and shedding light on the complexities of EU politics, economics, and society.

As the European Union faces challenges and uncertainties, including shifts in political dynamics, resistance to green policies, and economic complexities, it is crucial for leaders, policymakers, and citizens to engage in dialogue, collaboration, and critical thinking to address these issues effectively. By analyzing and discussing topics such as the Green Deal, French influence in the EU, and economic house-hunting options in Europe, Radio Schuman plays a valuable role in promoting informed debate and understanding of key issues shaping the future of the European Union and its member states. Through its informative and insightful programming, Radio Schuman contributes to a deeper appreciation and awareness of the complexities and opportunities within the EU, fostering dialogue and engagement among diverse stakeholders.
