13 people hospitalized and 2 in critical condition after fire breaks out at Hamilton transitional housing

Thirteen people were taken to hospitals in Hamilton after a fire broke out at the YMCA Men’s Residence in the city’s downtown. The fire, which was on the third floor of the building, required multiple residents to be rescued. The Hamilton Fire Department was able to bring the blaze under control, but not before the residents were taken to hospitals in serious or stable condition. The fire department was joined by more than 45 paramedics who helped with the rescue and transport of the residents.

The YMCA Men’s Residence provides transitional housing for over 210 men in Hamilton. Hamilton police closed roads in the downtown area around 12:30 p.m. on Monday to assist firefighters in tackling the blaze at the YMCA Men’s Residence. The fire was contained to the third floor of the building but required the rescue of several residents. Thirteen people were taken to hospitals in Hamilton; eight were in serious condition, while the other five were reported to be stable. Two of those rescued were in critical condition, according to an update from Hamilton police during the day.
