Vientos had initially lost the battle for the Mets’ starting third baseman position to Brett Baty and was playing in Triple-A before being recalled in May. Baty’s struggles against left-handed pitchers led to Vientos getting the opportunity to showcase his skills, particularly his success against lefties.
