A forest fire broke out in the vicinity of Yagbasan Mahallesi yesterday afternoon, prompting the dispatch of 5 airplanes, 4 helicopters, 12 tankers, 2 water supply vehicles, and 3 bulldozers from the Izmir Regional Directorate of Forestry to the area.
Firefighters from the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality and district municipality teams, as well as residents of the area, supported the extinguishing efforts.
As the air vehicles stopped operating with the darkening of the sky, the ground teams continued their intervention in the fire non-stop. The fire was brought under control. Two forest personnel were affected by smoke.
Salihli District Governor Mehmet Kamil Sağlam, Salihli Mayor Mazlum Nurlu, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Zafer Tombul, Manisa Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) Director Osman Pıhtılı, District Gendarmerie Commander Captain Dogukan Karaaslan, Manisa Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Director Metin Öztürk, and Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Deputy Ali Riza Gumus visited the fire area to receive information on the firefighting efforts.
In the meantime, a fire that occurred in the scrubland near Güvercinlik Mahallesi in Kula district was also brought under control.
In Adana, a stubble fire was reported in Sarımazı Mahallesi, and firefighters and forestry directorate teams were dispatched to the area.
In Uşak, a forest fire broke out in the forested area near Kışla village, which spread rapidly due to the wind, threatening the settlement areas in Gümüşkol village. However, after about 7 hours of work, the fire was brought under control.
In Gaziantep, a fire in the forested area of rural Belkıs Mahallesi spread to the Temporary Shelter Centre due to the wind, prompting the evacuation of Syrian irregular migrants from the area.
In Siirt, a fire broke out in the oak forest area in the Bacavan Yaylası area of Demirkapı village, spreading due to the burning of grass. Helicopters were used to tackle the fire along with ground teams, with the support of local villagers. After the fire was brought under control, cooling efforts continued in the region.
Finally, in Balıkesir, a fire that started in the field near Fatih Mahallesi quickly spread to the forested area, leading to the involvement of firefighting teams from Balıkesir Regional Directorate of Forestry. After the fire was contained, cooling efforts are ongoing in the region to prevent re-ignition.
