The Food and Drug Administration issued a report this week concerning the recall of hundreds of canned coffee products produced by the Wisconsin-based company Snapchill LLC due to concerns over botulism contamination. The products were distributed across the country to various roasters and vendors, as well as being sold online. The FDA raised concerns about the manufacturing practices and the potential for the growth and contamination of the botulinum toxin in the canned goods. Botulism is a type of food poisoning that can cause symptoms such as weakness, dizziness, double vision, abdominal distress, difficulty breathing, speaking, or swallowing, and can be fatal if not treated promptly.

Symptoms of botulism can appear within six hours to two weeks after exposure and require immediate medical attention. While no illnesses related to the Snapchill coffee have been reported and the company is not aware of any contamination, a large number of products have been recalled as a precautionary measure. The Post has reached out to Snapchill LLC for comment. The recalled products are sold in metal cans ranging from 7 oz to 12 oz at various retail locations under different brand names. Customers who have purchased these products should either destroy them or return them to Snapchill or the place of purchase. The company is offering refunds to customers who provide proof of purchase and a picture of the recalled products.

The decision to recall hundreds of canned coffee products was made after the FDA raised concerns over the manufacturing practices of Snapchill LLC. The agency stated that it was not notified, as per regulations, of the low acid method of producing the canned goods, which poses a risk of botulism contamination. Symptoms of botulism include weakness, dizziness, double vision, abdominal distress, difficulty breathing, speaking, or swallowing, and can lead to death if left untreated. The potential contamination of the products prompted the company to voluntarily recall the affected items to prevent any harm to consumers.

Immediate medical attention is required if symptoms of botulism appear, as the toxin can be deadly if not treated promptly. While no illnesses have been reported in relation to the Snapchill coffee products and the company is not aware of any contamination, a recall was issued as a precautionary measure. The recalled products are sold in metal cans labeled “Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC” under the nutrition facts panel. Customers affected by the recall are advised to either destroy the products or return them to Snapchill or the place of purchase for a refund. The company is offering refunds to customers who provide proof of purchase and a picture of the recalled products.

The FDA highlighted the risk of the growth and contamination of the botulinum toxin due to the low acid method of producing the canned goods. Symptoms of botulism can range from weakness and dizziness to difficulty breathing and speaking, and immediate medical attention is required if exposure is suspected. While no illnesses have been reported and the company is not aware of any contamination, the products were still recalled to prevent any potential harm to consumers. Customers who have purchased the recalled products are advised to either destroy them or return them to Snapchill or the place of purchase for a refund.
