Mia Bailey, a transgender woman, was arrested and charged with 11 felony counts related to the double homicide of her parents and the attempted murder of her brother in Utah. She allegedly broke into her parents’ home, shot her father in the head and her mother multiple times, and then shot at her brother through a locked door before fleeing the scene. Bailey later told police that she did not care whether her brother was killed. After making sure her parents were dead, she fled the home in her yellow Kia Soul. She was located by police about seven miles away in a St. George neighborhood, where she peacefully surrendered to armed officers and willingly dropped her firearm before being taken into custody.

Police officers had initially tracked down Bailey on Tuesday, but she pulled out a gun, put it to her head, and backed out of sight before she could be detained. The next day, she told police that she did not have remorse for her actions and that she would not change what she had done, stating that she would do it again because she hated her parents. Bailey had legally changed her name and gender in July 2023, with the court noting that there was clear evidence of her transition over a period of at least six months, including appropriate clinical care or treatment provided by a licensed medical professional.

The incident sparked an hours-long manhunt, with residents urged to shelter in place until Bailey was taken into custody. St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell announced the arrest in a Facebook live broadcast, assuring residents that everyone was safe and no one else was injured. Bailey’s capture came after she was cornered by police in the St. George neighborhood, where she surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody. Footage captured her dropping her firearm willingly before being handcuffed.

Bailey’s actions shocked the community and law enforcement, with court documents revealing the brutal nature of the crime she committed. After shooting her father and mother, she returned to her father to ensure he was dead before doing the same to her mother. Despite the heinous crime, Bailey showed no remorse and expressed her intent to kill her parents again if given the chance. The incident left her brother and his wife traumatized but alive, as they managed to lock themselves in a bedroom and avoid being shot by Bailey.

The tragic events involving Bailey and her family highlighted the complex nature of the case, including her gender transition, legal name change, and lack of remorse for her actions. The investigation into the double homicide and attempted murder shed light on the importance of mental health and support systems for individuals going through gender transitions or facing other challenges. The community was left reeling from the violent crime committed by Bailey, who faces serious legal consequences for her actions.
