Everything you need to know about the T20 World Cup Super Eights: From Format to Match-Ups

The ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2024 has reached the Super Eights stage in the United States and the West Indies with eight teams remaining out of the original 20. The top two teams from each of the initial four groups have qualified for this stage, with notable omissions including Pakistan and New Zealand. The format now consists of two groups of four teams each, with each team playing each other once and the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semifinals.

The Super Eights will be played from June 18 to June 25, with the tournament now fully taking place in the Caribbean at four venues in Barbados, Saint Lucia, Antigua, and Saint Vincent. The semifinals will be played on June 27 in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, with the final taking place in Barbados on June 29. Key matches to watch out for in the Super Eights include USA facing South Africa, West Indies against England, and India taking on Afghanistan. The match between Australia and India is expected to be crucial in determining the seedings for the semifinals.

India, Australia, and England are among the favorites to reach the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals. India, the number one ranked T20 team, is looking to make up for the heartbreak of losing the 2023 Cricket World Cup final to Australia. Australia, having won the World Test Championship and the 50-over World Cup, aims to become the undisputed kings of cricket by winning the T20 World Cup. England, the defending T20 champions, faced a difficult start to the tournament but managed to scrape through to the Super Eights round.

South Africa, West Indies, and other contenders in Group 2 like the USA are also looking to make their mark in the tournament. South Africa’s seam attack, led by Anriche Nortje, is formidable, but they have to overcome a history of never making it past the semifinal stage in major ICC tournaments. West Indies, on the other hand, are aiming for a record third T20 title but have yet to be truly tested in this edition of the tournament. The fixtures for the Super Eights are set, with matches scheduled between June 19 and June 25 in different venues across the Caribbean.

The prize money for the T20 World Cup 2024 has not been confirmed by the ICC, but previous winners England received $1.6 million in 2022. Fans can follow the T20 World Cup Super Eights through various broadcasting and online streaming outlets, with Al Jazeera providing extensive coverage of the tournament. Their coverage includes news, previews, live updates, post-match reaction, and analysis to keep fans updated on all the action from the T20 World Cup.
