Black voters in immigrant-weary Detroit show strong support for Donald Trump by embracing his promise to create more job opportunities.

Former President Donald Trump visited Detroit, where he received strong support from the mostly black crowd by addressing the issues of immigration and job loss. Trump claimed that illegal aliens are taking away job opportunities in black communities and presented himself as a savior against this problem. He accused Joe Biden of being the “King of super predators” due to his role in authoring the 1994 crime bill that impacted the black community negatively. Despite Detroit not being an official sanctuary city, it has also been experiencing an influx of migrants similar to other major cities like Chicago and New York.

During his campaign stop in Detroit, Trump announced the launch of his “Black Americans for Trump” coalition to counter a group that Biden’s campaign had invested heavily in. He emphasized the need for the black community to support him, as he believed Biden had historically failed them. Trump portrayed Biden as a threat to black Americans due to his involvement in policies such as the 1994 crime bill. The crowd in Detroit welcomed Trump warmly, especially when he promised to address the migrant crisis and secure the border, which are key issues for US voters according to the Pew Research Center.

Trump reiterated his commitment to securing the border and addressing illegal immigration while speaking at the People’s Convention of Turning Point Action. He expressed a strong stance against radical Islamic terrorists and promised to initiate the largest deportation operation in American history on day one of his new administration. Trump’s statements garnered support from the crowd, who applauded and chanted “USA” in response. Attendees at the event shared concerns about inequality in the distribution of resources, particularly in relation to treatment of different communities by the law and government.

Republican Congressman John James and former HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson also spoke at the event in support of Trump. They emphasized the importance of making the black middle class strong again and the need for both parties to listen to the concerns of black voters. Carson defended Trump against accusations of racism and nastiness, stating that he had a different perspective after getting to know the former president personally. The crowd responded positively to their speeches, with many expressing the belief that Americans, including black Americans, should come first in political decision-making.

Overall, Trump’s visit to Detroit highlighted his focus on issues such as immigration, job loss, and public safety in appealing to black voters. By framing himself as a champion against illegal immigration and a supporter of the black community, Trump aimed to secure their support in the upcoming election. His criticisms of Biden’s past policies and promises to address current challenges resonated with the crowd, leading to a positive response from attendees and speakers who voiced their support for Trump’s initiatives. Despite facing criticism and negative perceptions, Trump’s visit underscored the importance of engaging with diverse communities and addressing their concerns in the political landscape.
