An 83-year-old man named H.T.Ö. living in Yenişehir district received a phone call from a suspect who identified himself as “Chief Commissioner Volkan”. The suspect told him that his identity information had been obtained and that his name and money might be involved in investigations related to the FETÖ terrorist organization. The suspect claimed that they would take the money and gold, clean it, and return it to him.
Fearing that something bad might happen to him, H.T.Ö. handed over approximately 35,000 dollars and 15 full gold coins worth around 1 million 375 thousand lira to the person who came to his house. After realizing he had been duped, H.T.Ö. went to the Yenişehir Police Station to file a complaint. The Asayiş Sub-Directorate of the Security Directorate and the Yenişehir Security Directorate teams determined that the suspects were D.C., K.Ö., Y.Ç., and İ.C.
The suspects were apprehended in Istanbul and brought to Bursa by the Fraud Bureau teams. Upon their capture, 4 mobile phones, 3,400 dollars, 2,000 euros, and 12,000 lira were seized from the suspects. Following the processing at the police station, the suspects were referred to the Yenişehir Public Prosecutor’s Office. D.C., K.Ö., and Y.Ç. were arrested, while İ.C. was released under judicial control.
Security camera footage shows one of the suspects speaking with H.T.Ö. in front of his house, then leaving with a bag in hand. The authorities continue to investigate the case to ensure that justice is served and to prevent such scams from recurring in the future. Residents in the area are advised to be cautious and vigilant against similar schemes and to report any suspicious activities to the police immediately.
