Beware: These 3 Foods May Be Sabotaging Your Weight Loss Efforts

Georgia women’s weight loss coach Jenna Rizzo believes that pre-made smoothies, cocktails, and frozen foods should be avoided if you are trying to lose weight. In a TikTok video that garnered over 28,200 views, she emphasizes the negative impact these foods can have on weight loss when consumed in excess rather than moderation.

Rizzo specifically calls out store-bought smoothies and açaí bowls, stating that they are often loaded with added sugars and do not contain real fruits and vegetables, but instead, are made from powders. She advises making these items at home using real food and avoiding the added sugars that can be found in store-bought versions.

Frozen foods, such as frozen dinners, are also flagged by Rizzo as being calorie-dense and difficult to control portions of. She points out that these foods are typically made with low-quality ingredients and are linked to a higher risk of various serious health conditions, including obesity and heart disease.

Ready-to-drink cocktails are another category of items that Rizzo warns against when trying to lose weight. She describes alcohol as high in calories and detrimental to fat burning processes. Rizzo highlights the additional calories that can come from the juices and syrups added to pre-mixed cocktails, making it easy to consume hundreds to thousands of calories in one night, especially when drunk munchies kick in.

The American Heart Association recommends consuming 4½ cups of fruit per day, but Rizzo stresses that store-bought smoothies and açaí bowls are not the best way to meet this goal. Instead, she encourages making these items at home with real fruit to avoid the added sugars and powders commonly found in commercial versions.

In conclusion, Jenna Rizzo advocates for a focus on real, whole foods when trying to lose weight, recommending homemade versions of smoothies, açaí bowls, and cocktails over store-bought options. She believes that avoiding processed and calorie-dense foods, such as frozen dinners, can make portion control easier and contribute to overall weight loss success. Rizzo’s emphasis on the quality of ingredients and the impact of alcohol on weight loss highlights the importance of making mindful choices when it comes to food and drink.
