Mustafa Şahin in Şanlıurfa left his house to go to work on the morning of June 4. However, he was attacked by stray dogs on the way. Shahin was bitten on his arm and leg, but he was rescued by the neighborhood residents. He was taken to the hospital, while the dog that was caught by municipal teams died on the same day.

It was revealed that the dog was rabid, as a sample was taken and sent to the Adana Veterinary Control Directorate. As a result, Shahin was quarantined at the Şanlıurfa Education and Research Hospital. Municipal teams started to collect stray dogs wandering around Batıkent Mahallesi and took them to a shelter.

This incident raises concerns about the problem of stray dogs in Şanlıurfa and the potential dangers they pose to the residents. The issue of stray dogs attacking people is not uncommon in Turkey and has been a long-standing issue. Local authorities have been criticized for their handling of this problem and there have been calls for more effective measures to control the population of stray dogs.

The incident also sheds light on the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need for proper vaccination of pets. Rabies is a serious disease that can be transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected animal, and it is important for pet owners to ensure that their pets are vaccinated against rabies to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

It is crucial for municipalities to take action to address the issue of stray dogs and ensure the safety of the residents. This includes implementing effective sterilization programs to control the population of stray dogs, as well as educating the public about responsible pet ownership. By taking proactive measures, local authorities can prevent similar incidents from occurring and protect both humans and animals in the community.

In the aftermath of this incident, there is a renewed call for a comprehensive strategy to address the issue of stray dogs in Şanlıurfa and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. It is important for all stakeholders, including local authorities, animal welfare organizations, and the public, to work together towards finding sustainable solutions to ensure the safety and well-being of both humans and animals in the community.
