The death toll from Russia’s May 25 strike on a building materials hypermarket in Kharkiv has risen to 14, with over 40 people confirmed wounded and 16 missing. Two guided bombs hit the hypermarket causing a large-scale fire, with President Zelensky reporting that over 200 people may have been inside at the time. European Council President Charles Michel condemned the attack as “atrocious” and called for urgent action to stop Russia’s brutal attacks. Following the attack, Russian forces launched a second strike on Kharkiv’s city center, injuring at least 25 people. Russia’s new offensive in northern Kharkiv Oblast has stretched Ukrainian defenses and is exploiting their troop shortage.

Russia’s two-pronged assault in Kharkiv Oblast, which began on May 10, is forcing Ukraine to make difficult decisions about where to commit reserves. One group of Russian forces is already engaged in street fighting in the town of Vovchansk, as Russia’s offensive into Kharkiv Oblast continues. Ukrainian authorities have reported instances of civilian executions by Russian troops, highlighting the brutality of the conflict. Russia’s air and ground attacks in Kharkiv Oblast have caused widespread destruction and loss of life, further escalating the humanitarian crisis in the region.

President Zelensky has called for urgent action to address the ongoing attacks by Russian forces in Kharkiv Oblast. European leaders, including European Council President Charles Michel, have condemned Russia’s aggression and called for a comprehensive air defense solution for Ukraine. The international community is urged to support independent journalism and stay informed about the situation in Ukraine. The civilian casualties and destruction caused by Russia’s offensive in Kharkiv Oblast highlight the urgent need for a coordinated response to stop further violence and protect Ukrainian civilians.

The Russian offensive in Kharkiv Oblast is part of a wider conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with Moscow’s forces advancing into Ukrainian territory. The ongoing attacks have resulted in a high number of casualties and widespread destruction, prompting calls for international intervention to stop the violence. The situation in Kharkiv Oblast is dire, with reports of civilian executions and attacks on population centers. The international community must come together to support Ukraine and help end the bloodshed in the region. The escalation of hostilities in Kharkiv Oblast underscores the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and the protection of civilian lives.
