Swiss extreme athlete Andre Belibi set a new Guinness World Record for the longest time spent in an ice bath at the Calgary Marathon Runner’s Expo in Stampede Park. He spent four hours and six minutes submerged in ice, surpassing the previous record of four hours and two minutes. Belibi trained for over two years for this feat, incorporating meditation, breathing techniques, and exposure to cold weather to prepare himself mentally for the challenge. He emphasized the importance of taking the challenge one step at a time, focusing on breathing, meditation, relaxation, and accepting the cold.

To verify the world record, evidence will be submitted to Guinness for review, a process that may take several weeks to complete. Throughout the attempt, Belibi was monitored by an EMS team with pads and sensors to check his heart rate, core temperature, and carbon dioxide levels. After completing the record, he was carefully taken out of the ice bath, wrapped in blankets, and loaded into an ambulance to warm up. Belibi is known for pushing his body to extreme limits, having completed ultra-marathons and running across America and Africa. He used this world record attempt to raise money for Autism Canada.

Belibi’s training regimen focused on mental preparation, as he believes the mind is the key to pushing through extreme cold temperatures. He emphasized the importance of breathing, meditation, relaxation, and accepting the physical discomfort. By setting milestone goals such as hour by hour or 30 minutes by 30 minutes, Belibi was able to maintain his focus and endurance during the long hours spent in the ice bath. This mental fortitude and determination helped him break the world record and achieve his goal.

The official verification process for the Guinness World Record will involve submitting evidence of Belibi’s feat, including monitoring data from the EMS team. Despite the physical challenges of being submerged in ice for over four hours, Belibi successfully completed the attempt with the support of medical professionals and officials. His dedication to training and preparation for extreme challenges has enabled him to achieve remarkable feats and raise awareness for causes such as Autism Canada through his world record attempt.

Belibi’s world record in the ice bath demonstrates his exceptional ability to endure extreme conditions through a combination of mental strength, physical training, and preparation. His focus on breathing, meditation, relaxation, and acceptance of discomfort allowed him to surpass the previous record and set a new benchmark for endurance in cold temperatures. By using this record attempt to raise money for Autism Canada, Belibi has also shown his commitment to using his athletic achievements for a meaningful cause. His determination and perseverance in the face of challenging conditions highlight the potential of the human mind and body to accomplish extraordinary feats.
