In Istanbul, the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau for the 27 suspects who were identified as attacking police on May 1st and subsequently arrested has been completed. The suspects have been transferred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, where they provided statements to the prosecutor. The prosecutor requested that the suspects be remanded in custody, and the duty magistrate’s court decided to arrest all of the suspects. This comes after 49 suspects were previously arrested for similar charges.

The arrests stem from incidents on May 1st during the Labor and Solidarity Day in Istanbul, where 38 out of 217 suspects were arrested for attempting to advance towards Taksim Square and attacking police. Additionally, on May 5th, 11 out of 12 suspects who were apprehended for involvement in the demonstrations were also arrested. Following police investigations, 39 suspects who were later identified as attacking police on May 1st were wanted for offenses related to violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations and resisting public officials. Out of the 27 wanted suspects, 27 have been captured and taken into custody.

The developments regarding the arrests of the individuals who attacked police on May 1st highlight the efforts of the law enforcement agencies in Istanbul to hold perpetrators of violence and unrest accountable. The decision to remand all the suspects in custody indicates a strict stance against those who engage in violent behavior during public events. The arrests serve as a warning to others who may contemplate similar actions in the future that such behavior will not be tolerated and will be met with legal consequences.

The ongoing investigation into the incidents on May 1st underscores the commitment of law enforcement authorities to maintain public order and prevent acts of violence during public gatherings. By swiftly identifying and apprehending suspects involved in attacking police, the authorities demonstrate their determination to uphold the rule of law and ensure the safety of both the public and law enforcement personnel. The arrests and subsequent legal proceedings against the suspects send a strong message that criminal behavior will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The decision to arrest all the suspects involved in attacking police on May 1st reflects the seriousness with which such incidents are viewed by the authorities. By holding all the suspects accountable for their actions, the legal system aims to deter future acts of violence and ensure that those who engage in criminal behavior face consequences for their actions. The arrests and prosecution of the suspects serve to uphold the principles of justice and the rule of law, sending a clear message that acts of violence and disobedience will not be tolerated in society.
