Seinfeld star Michael Richards revealed in his upcoming memoir, Entrances and Exits, that he was diagnosed with stage 1 prostate cancer in the summer of 2018. The 74-year-old actor shared that he initially thought he was ready to go when he received the news, but then he thought of his young son and decided he wanted to fight for more time. He underwent surgery to remove his prostate, which ultimately saved his life. The near-death experience inspired him to write his memoir, which allowed him to take a full review of his life and connect with his feelings and memories.

Richards did not shy away from writing about his controversial past, including his infamous racist rant at the Laugh Factory in 2006. He expressed deep regret for his use of the N-word and revealed that he has spent the past 17 years in deep analysis trying to understand the root of his anger. Despite his past mistakes, Richards insisted that he is not racist and has nothing against Black people. He attributed his outburst to his own insecurities and feelings of not being accepted or wanted, even during his time as Cosmo Kramer on Seinfeld.

The actor opened up about his struggles with self-esteem and feeling undeserving of accolades and opportunities. He revealed that he turned down the offer of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and declined to host Saturday Night Live because he didn’t feel good enough. Richards admitted that fame magnified his insecurities and prevented him from fully embracing his talent as an actor. He acknowledged that he was comfortable hiding behind characters like Kramer but struggled to connect with himself as an artist.

In his memoir, Richards reflected on his journey of self-discovery and personal growth. He described the process of writing over 40 journals as a way to recount his life story and explore his emotions and memories. He expressed surprise at how much he was able to remember and how writing his memoir helped him make connections between his past experiences and his present self. Richards was candid about his struggles with anger and insecurity, recognizing that his outburst at the Laugh Factory was a manifestation of deeper emotional issues.

Entrances and Exits, Michael Richards’ memoir, is set to be released on June 4. The book promises to provide readers with a raw and honest account of the actor’s life, including his battles with cancer, racism, self-doubt, and the journey towards self-acceptance. Richards’ willingness to confront his past mistakes and insecurities in writing demonstrates his commitment to growth and self-improvement. Through his memoir, he hopes to share his story with others and inspire them to confront their own challenges and insecurities with courage and honesty.
