After the accident on the Tünektepe cable car line, inspectors conducted an investigation and found that 19 employees of the metropolitan municipality had been negligent in carrying out their supervisory duties. Following the permission granted by the Ministry of Interior to investigate these individuals, the case was referred to the Antalya Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation into the allegations and suspects mentioned in the case file. The Antalya Governor’s Office announced on May 17 that after an administrative investigation conducted by government inspectors appointed by the Ministry of Interior regarding the accident that occurred on the Tünektepe cable car line in Antalya’s Konyaaltı district on April 12, 2024, 19 individuals from the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality who were found to have been negligent in carrying out their supervisory duties have been granted permission to be investigated under Article 6 of Law No. 4483, and the case has been sent to the Antalya Public Prosecutor’s Office.
In the accident at the cable car facility in Sarısu on April 12, one person lost their life after falling from a cabin that had broken apart, and 7 others, including 2 children, were injured. The 11 other individuals evacuated from separate cabins were taken to the hospital for observation. Additionally, 174 individuals in the 24 cabins suspended in the air due to the system’s stoppage were rescued after approximately 22.5 hours of coordinated efforts by AFAD.
Following the accident, 14 suspects were detained, and Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, the former Chairman and General Director of ANET, along with four others, were arrested. The remaining 8 suspects were placed under judicial supervision, and one was released by the prosecutor’s office. An indictment was sent to the Antalya 6th Heavy Penal Court, requesting up to 27 years in prison for 12 defendants, including Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, on charges of “causing death and injury by negligence” and “recklessly endangering traffic safety.”
The indictment was accepted by the Antalya 6th Heavy Penal Court, which is continuing with the legal process. The investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing as authorities work to determine responsibility and bring justice to those affected by the tragic accident on the Tünektepe cable car line in Antalya.
