Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, along with other officials including the Friday prayers leader of Tabriz and the province’s governor, was aboard a helicopter that crashed in northwestern Iran. The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called upon the country to pray for the safe return of these individuals. Reports indicate that the crash occurred near the town of Jolfa, with two other helicopters in the convoy landing safely. State-run media urged the public to pray for the officials involved and reassured that the administration of the country would not be disrupted.

Despite the efforts of numerous rescue teams near the crash site, including drones and sniffer dogs, the location of the helicopter and the officials remains unconfirmed. Poor weather conditions such as fog and nightfall have complicated the rescue mission. The European Union and Turkey have offered assistance, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressing readiness to support Iran in the search efforts. Saudi Arabia and Qatar have also offered their assistance in the rescue mission. President Raisi was in Azerbaijan earlier to inaugurate a dam, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev extended prayers and support following the crash.

Khamenei, in his statements on social media, called for the people of Iran not to worry and assured that the country would continue to operate smoothly despite the incident. State-run media outlets encouraged the public to pray for Raisi and other officials involved, with videos showing large numbers of Iranians praying at holy sites. Raisi, who has been in office since 2021, has received well-wishes from both domestic and international leaders as the search and rescue efforts continue in the mountainous region of East Azerbaijan.

The exact location of the crash and the fate of the officials, including Raisi, remain unknown, as rescue teams faced challenges due to unfavorable weather conditions and darkness. The Iranian Red Crescent Society and Iranian Foreign Ministry have been engaged in the search efforts, with support from neighboring countries and international organizations. The crash occurred as Raisi was returning from an event in Azerbaijan, where he and President Aliyev inaugurated a dam on the Aras River. The incident has brought together nations in a display of solidarity and support for Iran during this challenging time.

As the search and rescue mission continues, the prayers and well-wishes of people from around the world pour in for the safe return of the officials aboard the crashed helicopter. The outpouring of support from neighboring countries, international organizations, and leaders reflects a shared hope for a positive outcome amidst the uncertainty of the situation. The resilience and solidarity shown in response to the tragic incident underscore the importance of unity and cooperation in times of crisis, transcending political differences in the pursuit of a common goal: the safety and well-being of those in need.
