Mars Petcare US issued a voluntary recall of 315 bags of PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food in the 44-pound size. The recall was due to concerns over loose metal pieces potentially being present in the bags. The products in question had a best-by date of March 4, 2025, and lot code 410B2TXT02. These bags were sold in Walmart stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The company is working with the retailer to remove the affected products from shelves to prevent any further distribution.

The company warned pet owners that the presence of loose metal pieces in the dog food bags could pose a health hazard to pets. While there have been no reports of injury or illness related to the product, consumers are advised to stop using it and monitor their pets for any unusual behavior. Those who believe they have purchased the affected product are urged to contact Mars Petcare US consumer care to facilitate a return or if they have any questions. The company’s consumer care hotline is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.

Product recalls are necessary when there are concerns that a product may be harmful in some way, such as a risk of contamination or failure to disclose allergens in mislabeled products. Other recent recalls include Palmer Candy Company recalling products potentially contaminated with salmonella, such as Caramel Swirl Pretzels and Peanut Butter Snack Mix. Additionally, East West Tea Company recalled over 50,000 boxes of Organic Yogi Echinacea Immune Support tea due to traces of pesticides found in the product. Natural Sourcing International also recalled Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds due to potential contamination with salmonella.

Consumers are advised to stay informed about product recalls to ensure their safety and the safety of their pets. In this case, Mars Petcare US has taken proactive measures to address the issue of loose metal pieces potentially present in their dry dog food product, urging pet owners to stop using the affected product and contact consumer care for further assistance. By following recall alerts and taking appropriate action, consumers can protect themselves and their loved ones from potential health hazards associated with contaminated or unsafe products. It is essential to monitor for any unusual behavior in pets that may have consumed the recalled dog food and seek veterinary assistance if needed.
