Harriet Spencer, a 29-year-old gardener from Southport, Merseyside, was left with dark green hands after using her new black and yellow gardening gloves for three hours. She purchased the gloves from her local Screwfix on April 25, and after tending to her garden, she noticed that the dye from the gloves had run off onto her skin, causing her hands to turn dark green. Despite trying various methods to remove the dye, including olive oil, exfoliant, and Screwfix’s own dye remover, Harriet was unable to get rid of the color. The situation was embarrassing, and her hands were sore and covered in blisters from all the scrubbing.

Harriet purchased the premium rigger gloves from Screwfix for £2.69, and they were wet through when she took them off after gardening. Her hands were completely green, except for the palm of her right hand. Despite contacting Screwfix’s customer services, she was told that the green staining was due to “leakage from the leather,” which she found to be a ridiculous explanation. Harriet expressed surprise that the gloves were still being sold, especially in the UK where wet conditions are common. The reactions from people who saw her green hands were humorous, yet embarrassing for Harriet.

Despite Harriet’s efforts to remove the green dye from her hands, including scrubbing and using various products recommended by Screwfix, the color lingered on her skin. Screwfix responded by stating that the dye from the gloves may have mixed with the natural materials due to heat, causing the skin discoloration. They offered to fully reimburse Harriet for the purchase and any products she used to remove the color. The situation was frustrating for Harriet, as she would have to wait for the layers of skin to shed in order for the green dye to fade away completely.

The incident with Harriet’s green hands gained attention from others, with many questioning what had happened to her skin. The situation was comical for some, but for Harriet, it was a painful experience as her hands were left sore and blistered from the scrubbing. She experienced embarrassment and discomfort due to the green staining caused by the gloves. The reactions from people who saw her hands were a mix of amusement and concern, and Harriet felt frustrated by the lack of effectiveness in removing the dye.

Overall, the story of Harriet’s green hands highlights the unexpected consequences of using new gardening gloves. Despite purchasing what seemed like a reliable product, Harriet found herself dealing with a challenging situation that left her hands stained and sore. The response from Screwfix and the reactions from others added to the humor and embarrassment of the situation. Harriet’s experience serves as a cautionary tale for users of gardening gloves, reminding them to be cautious and aware of potential issues such as dye leakage and skin discoloration.
