A group of Spaniards has been shot in the center of Afghanistan on Friday. Sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirm that several Spanish citizens have been “affected” in what is already being classified as an attack. The ministry states that they are working to “gather all the information” and assist them in collaboration with the EU delegation, and that the consular emergency unit is fully mobilized. In the assault, four people were killed and seven were injured. The Ministry of Interior of the Islamic republic has reported that four people were killed in the shooting, three of foreign nationality and one Afghan, and seven others, four foreigners and three Afghans, were injured. Four people have been arrested in connection with the attack, according to the ministry spokesperson, Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani.

At least one armed man opened fire on the group of tourists as they were leaving a bazaar in the provincial capital, according to eyewitnesses cited by The New York Times, which notes that no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban government “strongly condemns this incident, expresses deep sympathy to the families of the victims, and assures that all criminals will be found and punished,” said the Interior Ministry spokesperson. The incident occurred in Bamyan Province, where three foreigners, including one Afghan, were killed, and four foreigners, including three Afghans, were injured. The government is working to gather more information and provide support to the victims in collaboration with the EU delegation.
