EA Sports has announced the return of their College Football video game series, with the game set to be available for play on July 19. This year’s edition features three athletes on the cover: Quinn Ewers from Texas, Travis Hunter from Colorado, and Donovan Edwards from Michigan. The game, which began in 1993 as Bill Walsh College Football, has undergone name changes over the years, eventually becoming NCAA Football from 1998 to 2014. The game was put on hiatus due to disputes among EA, the NCAA, and college athletes, but is now making a comeback.

In previous installments of the College Football video game series, players were not able to see the names of the athletes they controlled on the field. Athletes like Reggie Bush and Tim Tebow were listed by their position and number, rather than their actual names. However, with the rise of name, image, and likeness deals, players will now be able to see the real names of the athletes they are controlling. EA Sports had announced the return of the game three years ago and even slated a release for last summer, but it had not materialized. The last cover athlete for the game was Denard Robinson of the Michigan Wolverines.

The game’s return is significant in the world of sports gaming, as it marks the re-emergence of a beloved franchise that had been on hiatus for several years. Fans and players alike will be eager to dive back into a game that holds a special place in their hearts, bringing back memories of their younger days. With the ability to now see the real names of the athletes on the field, players will have a more realistic and immersive gaming experience. The return of the College Football video game series is sure to be met with excitement and anticipation.

As the game’s release date approaches, fans can look forward to playing with some of the top college football athletes in the country, such as Jalen Milroe from Alabama, Carson Beck from Georgia, and Quinshon Judkins from Ohio State. The cover athletes for this year’s edition, including Donovan Edwards, who helped lead Michigan to a national championship victory, will be featured prominently on the game’s packaging. With the increasing popularity of name, image, and likeness deals, the game will provide a more authentic representation of college football, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in the experience.

The return of the College Football video game series also raises questions about the future of collegiate sports gaming, particularly in light of the ongoing debate surrounding athlete compensation. With the ability for players to now profit off their name and likeness, the landscape of sports gaming may see significant changes in the coming years. EA Sports’ decision to bring back the game after a hiatus demonstrates the enduring popularity and appeal of college football among fans and gamers. The release of the new game on July 19 is sure to be eagerly anticipated by sports enthusiasts and gamers alike.
