Electrolux warns of potential fire hazards and burn risks in certain older Frigidaire and Kenmore ranges

Electrolux Group has issued a warning to consumers to stop using older model Frigidaire and Kenmore electric ranges due to safety concerns. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported that the appliances, dating back to 2009, can pose fire risks and burn hazards. The heating elements on the recalled ranges have been known to spontaneously turn on by themselves, fail to turn off when switched off by the consumer, and heat to different temperatures than selected. Approximately 203,000 ranges are affected by the recall, including various models and colors sold nationwide from June 2001 through August 2009.

The affected ranges were originally recalled in 2009 and have since generated at least 212 complaints, including 14 reports of fires and eight reports of burn injuries on the hands or arms, as well as smoke inhalation. Electrolux Group has offered a remedy, in which a free inspection and repair will be scheduled for affected ranges that are repairable. Consumers with recalled ranges that are not repairable will be given a $50 electronic gift card, along with reimbursement of up to $60 for haul-away fees paid with proof of purchase of a new range and haul-away services. The CPSC has advised consumers not to leave any objects on the ranges even when the appliances are not in use to prevent accidents.

For more information, affected consumers can contact Electrolux toll-free at (888) 845-8226 from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. They can also reach the company via email at [email protected] or online at https://www.ema-recall.com/. The brand name, model, and serial number for each unit can be found on the frame of a drawer at the bottom of the unit when the drawer is opened. Recalled models and serial numbers include various Frigidaire and Kenmore Elite models, and customers are urged to check their appliances for potential risks and necessary actions to be taken.

Overall, the recall of older model Frigidaire and Kenmore electric ranges is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring consumer safety and preventing fire hazards. It is essential for affected consumers to take immediate action by contacting Electrolux for a free inspection and repair if their ranges are found to be repairable. With 14 reports of fires and eight burn injuries already recorded, it is crucial for consumers to adhere to the safety guidelines and avoid using the recalled appliances until they have been inspected and repaired. The provision of a $50 electronic gift card and reimbursement for haul-away fees further incentivizes consumers to replace their older ranges with newer, safer models.
