Pirates’ Player Paul Skenes Pledges to Donate $100 to Gary Sinise Foundation for Every Strikeout This Season

Pittsburgh Pirates top prospect Paul Skenes has set out on a mission to make it to the big leagues this season while also supporting a noble cause. He has pledged to raise funds for the Gary Sinise Foundation, aiming to collect $100,000 to assist military veterans and first responders. Skenes plans to donate $100 for every strikeout he records throughout the season and has invited his followers to join him in making contributions.

The Gary Sinise Foundation was established in 2011 by actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise, who had spent the previous decade volunteering with various organizations. Over the past ten years, the foundation has worked diligently to expand its service efforts, providing additional support and outreach to the military, veteran, and first responder communities. Skenes hopes to contribute to this mission by raising awareness and funds for the foundation during his baseball season.

Starting the 2024 season in the minors with Triple-A Indianapolis, Skenes is gearing up for a potential call-up to the majors. While the Indians have yet to name a starter for their first game of the season against the Louisville Bats, Skenes is expected to make an impact once he joins the team. His time in the minors may be short-lived, as he is one of the promising prospects who emerged from college in 2023, receiving accolades such as the National Pitcher of the Year award and the College World Series Most Outstanding Player.

Having played collegiate baseball at LSU, Skenes has already made a name for himself in the sports world, as well as outside of it. He is in a relationship with LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne, adding to his personal story and public appeal. With his potential call-up to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Skenes could draw more fans to PNC Park and bring excitement to the team as they navigate through the season. Although the Pirates may not be projected to have a successful year just yet, Skenes’ presence could generate momentum and interest in the team.

As the baseball season gets underway, Skenes is using his platform and talent to support a meaningful cause, showcasing his dedication to both the sport and his commitment to helping others. Through his partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation, he aims to raise awareness about the struggles faced by military veterans and first responders, encouraging others to contribute to the cause. With his talent on the field and his generosity off it, Skenes is poised to make a significant impact both in baseball and in the community.
