Transforming Endless Video Calls into Valuable Insights with Recall.ai

Recall.ai, a San Francisco-based start-up, has recently secured a $10 million funding round to further develop its software that helps businesses mine data from video conferences. The company works with various technology companies that offer products aimed at processing data from popular video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. These products, often referred to as “meeting bots”, range from simple tools that produce meeting minutes to more advanced solutions that provide feedback on communication skills.

Co-founded by David Gu and Amanda Zhu, Recall’s platform allows software engineers to focus on building key product features rather than solving technical challenges related to extracting actionable insights from video calls. The company’s technology has a wide range of applications, including a tele-health tool that generates patient notes for doctors and a financial adviser app that helps identify clients’ needs. Fellow.app, a company providing meeting transcription and management software, has partnered with Recall to enhance their platform. Recall currently has around 300 clients and has seen its revenue increase significantly over the past year.

Despite its success, Recall has faced challenges related to data protection regulations and the rapidly changing landscape of the artificial intelligence sector. The company ensures compliance with frameworks such as SOC 2 and GDPR, storing audio and video data for a maximum of seven days before automatic deletion. With a focus on understanding customer needs and industry trends, Recall aims to onboard 600 clients by the end of the year. The company’s growth has attracted investors, with Ridge Ventures leading a $10 million Series A round, supported by Industry Ventures, Y Combinator, and other existing investors. The funding will enable Recall to expand its team and further develop its product.

Akriti Dokania, a partner at Ridge Ventures, believes Recall is on track to become the go-to infrastructure layer for enterprise-level conversational data. As video and voice data become increasingly essential for software companies, providing API-based infrastructure is a challenging but necessary solution. Recall’s growth demonstrates the demand for such technology and the company’s ability to address complex data challenges for enterprises. With its recent funding round, Recall is poised to accelerate its growth and establish itself as a leader in the market for extracting insights from video conferencing data.
