Queen Camilla renounces buying fur, PETA confirms: ‘A true queen’

Queen Camilla has made the decision to no longer add any new pieces of fur to her wardrobe, following in the footsteps of her late mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Camilla has received praise from PETA, with the animal rights organization commending her for standing with the majority of British citizens who choose not to wear fur. While it is uncertain if Queen Camilla will continue to wear old fur styles, she has committed to not procuring any new fur for her wardrobe in the future.

In the past, Queen Camilla has faced criticism for wearing fur pieces, such as a vintage Philip Treacy hat she wore to a Christmas church service in 2010. However, she has taken a stance against fur going forward. Queen Elizabeth II, who frequently wore fur throughout her reign, made the decision to stop adding new genuine fur products to her wardrobe in 2019. While she still wears ceremonial pieces with fur trim, she has transitioned to using fake fur for warmth in particularly cold weather.

Queen Camilla’s decision to embrace faux fur aligns with British values, according to PETA. The organization believes that fur has no place in society and commends the British monarchy for recognizing this. PETA has praised Queen Camilla for wearing a faux fur hat to a recent royal service, showing her commitment to avoiding real fur. Additionally, PETA has criticized the British Ministry of Defense’s use of real bear fur for the royal guard’s caps, stating that it appears out of touch with the changing attitudes towards fur in society.

In her memoir, Queen Elizabeth II’s longtime dresser Angela Kelly explained that Her Majesty began using fake fur to stay warm during cold weather engagements in 2019. This decision was made to align with the queen’s stance against adding new genuine fur products to her wardrobe. The transition to faux fur for warmth demonstrates the royal family’s commitment to maintaining their values while adapting to changing societal norms. The royal decision to stop procuring fur products echoes the sentiments of the majority of British citizens who choose not to wear animal fur.

Both Queen Camilla and Queen Elizabeth II have made significant strides in aligning their wardrobes with modern values by no longer adding genuine fur products to their clothing collections. Their decision to embrace faux fur represents a broader shift towards more ethical and sustainable fashion choices. By taking a stand against the fur industry, the British monarchy is setting an example for others to follow. This choice reflects changing attitudes towards animal welfare and demonstrates a commitment to upholding British values in the realm of fashion and beyond.
