Rhys Hoskins Lands on IL as Brewers Continue to Deal with Injury Woes

The Milwaukee Brewers will be without veteran slugger Rhys Hoskins for at least the next two weeks as he was placed on the injured list with a strained right hamstring. Hoskins suffered the injury Monday night while attempting to go for second on a base hit. An MRI examination confirmed the injury, forcing Hoskins to miss significant playing time.

Despite missing the entire 2023 season due to a torn ACL, the Brewers signed the 31-year-old Hoskins to a two-year, $34 million contract in January. Through his first 38 games this season, Hoskins proved to be a valuable addition to the Brewers’ lineup, hitting .474 with nine home runs, 27 RBIs, and a .794 OPS. He was especially hot over the last week, with three homers and nine RBIs in his last six games.

To fill the void left by Hoskins, the Brewers recalled Owen Miller from Triple-A Nashville. However, they also have options in Jake Bauers and Gary Sánchez to play first base. Bauers has been performing well, with a .361 batting average over his last 13 games and his first career grand slam one night earlier. Manager Pat Murphy hinted that Bauers would see more playing time in Hoskins’ absence.

In addition to Hoskins, the Brewers have had to deal with multiple injuries throughout the season, with Hoskins being the 12th player to land on the injured list. The team has had to use 38 players in their first 42 games, including 22 different pitchers. Despite the challenges presented by injuries, the team has continued to compete and adjust the lineup accordingly.

Hoskins’ absence will be felt in the Brewers’ lineup, as he was a key contributor both offensively and as a leader on the team. Manager Pat Murphy acknowledged the impact of losing one of their leaders but expressed confidence in the depth of the team with players like Bauers and Sánchez stepping into key roles. The Brewers will continue to adjust and adapt as they navigate through the challenges posed by injuries throughout the season.

The Brewers will look to continue their competitive performance in the remainder of the season, despite the setbacks caused by injuries. With a strong lineup and depth in key positions, the team remains focused on their goal of securing victories and making a push for the playoffs. As players like Bauers and Sánchez take on increased responsibilities in the absence of Hoskins, the team will rely on their depth and resilience to overcome challenges and stay competitive in the league.
