Three New Series Debuting, Changes to Lineup on Four Nights

NBC is set to premiere three new primetime series this fall, including the drama Brilliant Minds and comedies St. Denis Medical and Happy’s Place with Reba McEntire. These changes will impact four nights of the week, with new time periods for shows such as Night Court and Lopez vs. Lopez, as well as dramas The Irrational and Found. Chicago-themed Wednesday and football on Saturday and Sunday will remain unchanged. Monday nights will feature drama Beautiful Minds at 10 pm ET following the return of The Voice.

Tuesday’s lineup will include the debut of St. Denis Medical, a mockumentary about an underfunded Oregon hospital, and the return of Night Court following The Voice and The Irrational. On Wednesday, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD will continue to air back-to-back. Thursday’s lineup will feature Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, and Found in the 10 pm time slot. Friday will showcase the new series Happy’s Place, starring Reba McEntire, as well as Lopez vs. Lopez and Dateline. Saturday and Sunday will remain dedicated to football with Big Ten Saturday Night and NBC Sunday Night Football.

Looking ahead to midseason, NBC will introduce the procedural drama The Hunting Party, as well as non-scripted series The Americas and Destination X. The lineup will also include the competition series Deal or No Deal Island, but no time periods have been announced for these shows. Despite the strong lineup of returning series like The Voice, Chicago Med, Fire, and PD, and Law & Order franchises, some returning series are considered weak. The network is also lacking in the comedy department, leading to questions about potential audience growth for NBC next season.

Brilliant Minds will follow the extraordinary life and work of world-famous author and physician Oliver Sacks, exploring the human mind and relationships. St. Denis Medical will offer a humorous look at an underfunded hospital in Oregon. Happy’s Place will feature Reba McEntire as a woman who inherits her father’s bar and discovers a new business partner in her half-sister. The midseason lineup will include the high-concept crime procedural The Hunting Party, The Americas narrated and produced by Tom Hanks, and the adventure competition series Destination X.

Overall, NBC’s fall 2024 lineup promises a mix of drama, comedy, and non-scripted series designed to entertain audiences. While the return of popular shows like The Voice and Chicago trio is expected to attract viewers, the network’s weak lineup of returning series and lack of strong comedies may impact its audience growth potential. The addition of new series like Brilliant Minds, St. Denis Medical, and Happy’s Place, as well as midseason shows like The Hunting Party and The Americas, will offer viewers a variety of entertainment options throughout the season.
