GM Responds to Andretti Rejection in F1 News

General Motors (GM) has expressed their unwavering support for Andretti’s Formula 1 entry bid, despite receiving a rejection from Formula One Management (FOM). GM’s involvement through its Cadillac brand aimed to establish an All-American team in Formula 1. While FIA approved the bid last October, FOM rejected it in January, advising Andretti to reconsider for the 2028 season. GM plans to supply a power unit in 2028, potentially using a customer engine from Renault in the interim years of 2026 and 2027.

Eric Warren, GM’s Executive Director of Motorsports Competition, has been vocal about the company’s commitment to the F1 bid. He emphasized GM’s technical capabilities and determination to overcome the obstacles faced in entering the prestigious racing series. Warren stated that GM has the expertise, resources, and talent necessary to compete in Formula 1 successfully. Despite the setback, he asserted that GM will continue to prove their capabilities and commitment to their fans and brands.

GM plans to enhance Andretti’s setup with high-level expertise and advanced technological resources. They will focus on improving car subsystems, aerodynamics, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) work to strengthen their position in Formula 1. Warren highlighted GM’s successful track record in various racing series and their ability to recruit top talent and invest in technology. Despite the challenges, GM remains convinced that they can bring something unique to Formula 1 and are determined to succeed.

Despite FOM’s initial rejection of Andretti’s entry bid, GM and Andretti are engaged in ongoing discussions with Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. The aim is to present a stronger case for their entry and overturn the previous judgment. Warren emphasized that they disagreed with FOM’s assessment of their entry bid and are focused on demonstrating the value they can bring to Formula 1. GM’s commitment to the sport and support from their board and company have added significant value to their bid, reinforcing their resolve to succeed.

As momentum builds and the value of Andretti’s entry bid becomes clearer, GM is confident in their ultimate success in entering Formula 1. Their determination to showcase their capabilities, commitment, and value to the sport and global fans remains unwavering. GM’s focus on navigating the process, respecting the sport, and demonstrating their resolve and commitment are driving factors in their continued pursuit of joining Formula 1. With the support of their fans, brands, and the entire company, GM is poised to make a significant impact in the world of Formula 1.
