Sasha Pieterse expressed interest in making a cameo as Alision DiLaurentis on Pretty Little Liars: Summer School in order to answer open-ended questions about her character and allow for an Emison reunion that fans have been hoping for. She believes it would be fun to fill in the gaps left by The Perfectionists and tie up loose ends in the story. Pieterse portrayed Queen Bee Ali on the original series and later on The Perfectionists before it was canceled after one season.
While Pieterse was excited to continue with Alison’s story, she had issues with some of the plot points in the spinoff, particularly Alison and Emily’s divorce. She believed that in their version of reality, Emison would be forever and they would have worked through their issues together. Pieterse was also disappointed that the show failed to include Ali and Emily’s twins, which was an important missing aspect of their story that upset her.
Pieterse strongly feels that Ali and Emily belong together as a unit and that their relationship is special and should be protected. Despite the trauma and PTSD they experienced on PLL, she believes they would have sought therapy and worked through their issues. Pieterse envisions a future where Ali overcomes her stubbornness and the couple finds their way back to each other.
While Pieterse may not be appearing in the current season of PLL: Summer School, she is excited about the new cast and the darker and horror-centric direction the show is taking. She appreciates that the franchise is living on with a new generation of fans and enjoys seeing the darker elements being explored in the new series. Pieterse thinks there is a lot of fun to be had with the new cast and storyline.
In her new film, The Image of You, Pieterse plays twins Anna and Zoe who are polar opposites but closely bonded. She believes that fans of her work on PLL will enjoy seeing her bring these characters to life, with Zoe representing a grown-up version of Alison in her early 30s. Although she may not be returning to PLL, Pieterse is excited about the darker material and complex characters she gets to explore in The Image of You, which is currently in theaters. She sees her roles in both projects as interconnected and as an evolution of her previous work as Alison.
