Sean Burroughs, a baseball player who gained fame for throwing back-to-back no-hitters in the Little League World Series, has passed away at the age of 43. Little League International and California’s Long Beach Little League confirmed his death, with his mother revealing that he went into cardiac arrest. Burroughs had a successful career, winning two Little League World Series championships and later playing for four big league teams. He also won an Olympic gold medal in 2000.

USA Baseball expressed their condolences, with CEO Paul Seiler calling Burroughs a beloved member of the team who represented the country with class on and off the field. Details of his sudden passing indicate that he was found unconscious near his car after dropping his son off for a Little League baseball game. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, leaving the Long Beach Little League community in shock and mourning the loss of one of their own.

Known as a legend in Long Beach Little League and the baseball community, Burroughs’ achievements in the 1992 and 1993 Little League World Series were celebrated. The organization paid tribute to him on social media, acknowledging the tremendous impact he had on the sport. Burroughs’ father, Jeff Burroughs, who was a former American League MVP, likely inspired his son in his baseball career. Sean Burroughs’ career included stints with the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Minnesota Twins before retiring in 2012.

Burroughs spoke openly about struggling with a lack of passion for the game, leading him to take a break from baseball in 2006. He cited physical and mental exhaustion, as well as substance abuse issues, as contributing factors to his decision. However, he eventually returned to the sport in 2011 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, showing resilience and determination to continue chasing his baseball dreams. Despite facing challenges along the way, Burroughs made a lasting impact on the baseball world and will be remembered for his contributions to the sport.

The news of Sean Burroughs’ passing has deeply affected the baseball community, especially those who knew him personally or admired his career from afar. Tributes have poured in from fans, former teammates, and organizations like Long Beach Little League and USA Baseball. His legacy as a skilled player, dedicated competitor, and beloved figure in the sport will live on through the memories and stories shared by those who had the privilege of knowing him. The impact of his sudden death serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing each moment.
